On the western edge of Castle Park, three vacant 1960s bank buildings once stood, no longer serving any purpose. Nestled among them were the charming ruins of St Mary le Port Church, hidden from view for decades. Now, a transformative project is set to breathe new life into these historical treasures.

The Church and nearby Vaults are being carefully repaired, with plans to reopen them to the public, offering free access to these revitalised historical gems. In addition, the project will create new outdoor spaces that seamlessly extend into Castle Park, inviting the community to explore and enjoy.

Castle Park, already well-connected by footpaths, cycle routes, public buses, and boats, will see these connections further enhanced as historic streets and routes lost after the war are reinstated. Open and welcoming, the area will become a vibrant, sustainable destination for those who live, work, and visit, blending history with modern life.
