The Hive Library
Worcester
The Hive Library in Worcester stands as a beacon for the community. As the UK’s first fully integrated public and university library, The Hive has revolutionised access to information and learning. Its open, inviting spaces have transformed how people interact with libraries, fostering a vibrant hub for over 18,000 members. This architectural marvel not only provides vital resources but also enhances community connectivity, setting a new standard for libraries globally. Its sustainable design reflects a commitment to both innovation and environmental stewardship.
The Hive is the successful culmination of a ground breaking partnership between Worcester County Council and the University of Worcester to create a fully integrated public and university library. This is an idea completely new to the UK and highly innovative internationally. More than 18,000 people have signed up since its opening, marking a 500 per cent increase on the old Library. Book borrowing has been up by 10 per cent, and the project has been awarded a BREEAM Outstanding rating.
“The Hive is a stunning success. Britain’s first university and public library is brilliant for our students while attracting and inspiring people throughout Worcestershire.”
Prof. David Green, Vice-Chancellor University of Worcester
